A few days back I responded to a reader’s comment on my most recent rule, Rule 43. I referred to a gentleman who is to my knowledge regarded as one of the best dressed, if not the best dressed American politician, Willie Brown. Mr. Brown was Mayor of San Francisco from 1996-2004 and was a member in the California State Assembly for roughly 30 years preceding that. Political accomplishments aside, he’s one well dressed gent.
If you have read Nicholas Antongiavanni’s book The Suit (which I highly recommend reading) you are familiar with him, as he is mentioned a few times. Or refer to Mr. Boehlke’s piece on him on A Suitable Wardrobe as well as an Interview of Mr. Brown by Michael Mattis of CBS. Either way, if you are at all interested in dressing well, especially in the public spotlight, may I recommend you familiarize yourself with him.
