Underrated: Uniqlo Down Vest

uniqlo down vest

Few articles in my closet have gotten more wear this fall and winter than my Uniqlo Ultra Light Down Vests.  I originally purchased the beige one to wear under my suit jackets on days that it was not cold enough to merit an overcoat because it is a very thin and warm garment (such as the day I visited SuitSupply); a more contemporary look you could argue.  However, I now wear them with almost everything; sweaters, t-shirts, dress shirts, suits etc.  They are a fraction of the cost of similar pieces, $50 compared to $150, and perhaps of more importance there is no external branding; for logos are not to be worn with suits (see Rule 46).  However, the quality does not seem to be that of those from Patagonia, but I have yet to have any tears or damage to any of my three vests.  If you are going to purchase, keep in mind they seem to run a little large.  I normally wear a medium in shirts and jackets, however, a small fit me best for these vests (you can see the fit in the photo below, my relevant measurements are  5’10” height, 18″ shoulder to shoulder, 41″ chest and 33″ waist).  Given the lack of coverage I have seen of these on other outlets I conclude that I am either a bit off my rocker or that these vests are seriously underrated.  I’ll be the first to admit that both are true.

Stay Warm,
