For those in the market for anything designer, I advise a trip to the Barneys warehouse sale taking place over the next 10 days. I arrived at 8am this morning and the line was nearly an avenue long, luckily the line only took just over 30 minutes. The men’s stuff is downstairs and the women’s upstairs. I cannot speak for the women’s but the men’s selection was mediocre. It seemed most things were marked down around 50%. There was a variety of suits from Hugo Boss ($547), Piratelli ($499), Barneys and a few other lesser known brands as well as a few gems from Brioni. The odd jacket selection was also mediocre. The tie selection was completely underwhelming. The brands were good, but the prices ($99 for Brioni and Isaia, $69 for Fairfax and Barneys) and selection was poor), but there were some decent bow ties, including some from Drake’s (who makes some of the finer neck wear money can buy). The shoe selection was also underwhelming. I did see a few Aquascutum coats as well as a few nice Woolrich rain coats. Fortunately, the sales people I talked to said they would be refreshing the inventory daily. Hopefully things will get better, but then again, it is Barneys and Barneys is not really my style.
